Error starting BBTracker

Got error starting bbtracker on my 8700r after I downloaded the jar file from the site today. "Module "bbtrakcer" has verification error 404 at offset 4dec. Tried reinstalling but no joy. Have Bluetooth holex 236 slim receiver. Made sure it was on too.

In my experience verification errors in bbTracker have two possible causes:

• installation via the JAD-file (I've not found the reason for this) and
• missing APIs on the device

Since you specifically mention that you used the jar file, we can rule out the first one. Could you please verify if your 8700 has at least the version 4.2.1 of the BlackBerry software? Because earlier releases for this device did not include the necessary Location API (JSR-179, details can be found in  this article).

If you've got an earlier version then you can either look for an update or wait for the 0.5.0 release of bbTracker, which should allow accessing the GPS puck via the bluetooth API (and thus wouldn't require JSR-179). Unfortunately development of 0.5.0 is a bit stalled at the moment, as I've got no access to a device where I can test that functionality.

This 8700r has ver 4.1.0.206. I do not think you can upgrade it..at least I have not found an upgrade. This model has been the workhourse of the blackberry line..at least in my neck of the woods. It would be great if your product worked with it.

Since the problem stems from the fact that the device does not implement JSR-179 I'll close this issue as a duplicate of #34.
